Sleep Disorders & Insomnia
There is no doubt that sleep can be very challenging when you have an irritated bladder. Nighttime IC flares often result from eating foods that irritate the bladder, such as coffee, tea, sodas, and citrus. Thus, your first line of defense is to protect your bladder and create an environment that will nurture healing. Diet modification is critical for many patients struggling with Hunner’s lesions, estrogen atrophy and bladder wall inflammation. Some patients find benefit in using a melatonin or non-melatonin sleep aids. That said, if your nighttime frequency is because of that coffee, you just can’t give up, the odds of any supplement helping you sleep are greatly reduced.
