Anxiety & Stress
Talk with almost any IC patient and they often share that some of their “flares” are caused by periods of intense stress and anxiety. Studies have also linked “persistent fight or flight” and chronic anxiety with higher levels of pain throughout the body as well as the development of overlapping pain conditions, including: IC, IBS, vulvodynia, TMJ, migraines, fibromyalgia, TMJ and others. This is not your fault. This can be triggered my injuries, childhood trauma, bullying and abuse. To heal, we must bring the brain back out of “fight or flight” and into a state of calm which will them reduce pain. From deep breathing to mindfulness, EMDR therapy to reduce trauma and products like Anxie-T, patients have great resources available. Noone is saying that this is all in your head nor is it mental illness. It’s about how our bodies and our central nervous systems adapt to persistent stress and trauma.
