Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome is one of the chronic overlapping pain conditions (COPC’s) that often coincides with bladder pain, vulvodynia, TMJ, fibromyalgia and migraines. Researchers with the Chronic Pain Research Alliance were the first to discover that the central nervous system appears to have been injured. An estimated 80% of the children who developed COPC’s had a major physical injury while the remaining 20% were victims of abuse and bullying. There is good news! Treatment is now focused on calming our sensitive, injured nervous system.

In her book ‘First Year: IBS’, Heather Van Vorous was the first to discuss remarkably sensitive nerves in the bowel and that some laxatives and insoluble fibers are actually irritating, often triggering cramping. In contrast, soluble fibers promote calm, normal bowel function. Her product line ‘Heathers Tummy Care’ are affordable and remarkably helpful. Heather’s Tummy Acacia Fiber is a soluble fiber that is gentle on the gut and more soothing than products that contain psyllium.
